GUIDING - Toftes Gave & Skredderstustien

Historiske Toftes Gave association organises
Guidet tour on the premises of the former reform and boys' home Toftes Gave.

Toftes Gave was a children's home established in the mid-1800s in Oslo and relocated to Helgøya in 1877.
The institution was originally created as a reform school for “maladjusted children.” At the time of its founding, Toftes Gave was the only children's home in the country. In 1874, Norwegian judges were given the authority to sentence children from the age of 10 to placement in a "reform institution" instead of prison. When Toftes Gave moved to Helgøya in 1877, it was designated as such an institution, and it became the only facility in Norway authorized to admit children under this type of sentence. As a result, Toftes Gave became a penal institution.
Join a guided walk from the former reform and boys' home Toftes Gave, along the Skredderstien trail to Skurven.
The guide will share the history of Toftes Gave and answer questions such as: What is the connection between Toftes Gave and Skredderstien? What history lies along the trail? And what do all the images in the artwork at the end of the trail mean?
